Mallorca in October: The Ideal Time to Explore the Island by Yacht

Looking for a balmy sun-filled autumnal break? Mallorca in October offers a wonderful array of things to see and do. While Mallorca is best known for its sun-drenched beaches, the largest island of the Balearics also offers a fabulous plethora of activities, and Mallorca’s weather in October is sufficiently cool enough to allow you to explore this wonderful island in comfort. So, skip the beaches and instead discover some of Mallorca’s hidden gems.

Here’s the top five things to see and do in Mallorca in October

1 – Hike Mallorca’s mountains

Mallorca’s weather in October offers great conditions for hiking and the island’s stunning mountain ranges make it a great destination for hikers. Both novices and hiking pros will find a wide range of hiking routes to choose from, including ones that take you through soaring pine forests, rugged mountain ranges, and valleys filled with fruit trees. Many routes offer stunning vistas, including vantage points to look out over the sea. Serra de Tramuntana and Sierra de Llevant are Mallorca’s two mountain ranges, offering more than five summits over 1,000 metres high.

2 – Feast on Mallorca’s harvest spoils and enjoy a foodie festival

Mallorca in October is the ideal time for foodies to check out the myriad of farmers markets, which are bursting with local produce at this time of year.

Mallorca has an abundance of fruit trees and almond trees; however, the island is probably best known for its olive trees, from which high-quality extra-virgin olive oil is produced.

Alongside all the traditional fresh produce you would expect to see at a farmers market, other notable items to look out for are Sobrassada, a traditional cured and spiced sausage. There’s even a festival dedicated to this humble food, held every year in October in the rural town of Campos, so be sure to check it out!

If you want to cycle with a purpose, then check out the True Cycle Challenge, held the first week of October. Individuals will take on three days of cycling challenges, all to raise funds from Tommy’s, a UK-based charity, designed to help break the silence around baby loss.

4 – Tour Mallorca’s wineries and enjoy a tipple or two

Mallorca is a must-visit for oenophiles as the island is brimming with vineyards producing a spectacular array of fine wines, which, thanks to their excellent quality, are now growing in popularity.

The two main wine regions, Binissalem and Pla i Llevant, are easy to visit in a day, where you can visit the region’s wineries and sample and buy wine. Make sure you visit Bodega Ribas, Mallorca’s oldest winery that produces wines from hand-harvested, premium grapes. There is a wide range of tour operators offering tours of Mallorca’s wine regions, making this a must-do activity during a visit to Mallorca in October.
